Creating a new vision and bringing awareness on Depression leading to Suicide Ideation

Like many bright things, the creation of Prelude comes from a dark place. But life found a way. This film, what led to its making, what I went through to create it, and what I experienced while trying to rescue it, has been my salvation.

As a filmmaker, my way of fighting Depression and Suicidal Ideation was to take a grasp on my life with creation. I needed to understand existence’s function again. And only hard work could give me that. From this hard work a film was created, Prelude.

Despite the seriousness of Mental Illness, contagious plague of our times, there is still a societal stigma associated with it. Most people, even the one suffering from it, don’t really know what it implies and how to fight it.

Prelude has a singular approach on these questions usual cinema tends to depict, too often, as an irrepressible mystery. Personally, I don’t think it is mysterious and I don’t think it has been shown enough in a way that will prevent people from falling into the rabbit hole nor help people getting out of it.

My film treats Depression leading to Suicide in a way I never saw before. With the seriousness and my experience of going through such states, I think my vision isn’t only singular, but also brings real reflections that would be valuable to sensibilise and bring more awareness to such issues and, eventually, help others to heal.

Fortunately for me, I found my peace in the work I produced and fighting to save it from destruction gave me a second chance to pursue life. But now, I want to share this experience with others so it can be helpful for them too.
I believe Prelude is valuable to this cause. I believe it can be a powerful weapon against this disease called Depression and any audience can find value in witnessing the impact Art can have upon our lives deepests conundrums.

Wandering in chaos planets are born stars

In a few words, and images, I wished to share the hopeful experience from those who hit the rock bottom of things and survived it: unexpected enters life anytime there’s a will. And it can take so little for a whole life to have its sparkle back. Seeing a painting of Van Gogh, hearing a few notes of Debussy, feeling a shaft of sunlight on your skin, the taste of a cherry…
